Creating a home office space

Creating a home office space

Creating a home office space doesn’t have to be a daunting task.  First, consider how you are going to use the space.  Does it require certain gadgets?  Will you need special lighting?  I like to make a list of all the needs of my space first. Next, find the best location in your home for this.  This could be a closet, a corner or empty portion of a wall, or maybe you have a whole room dedicated towards this new space.  Considering the size of the location and what the goals are for the space you need to create a budget for completing the room.  While looking for a location I like to check out my electrical outlets.  This could become very important if hiring an electrician is out of the question.  If lighting is an issue in this space don’t be afraid to get creative.  Hanging lamps, floor lamps,  battery powered bulbs are always options so just because there isn’t a fixture currently in the spot you want it doesn’t mean that there can’t.       Office supplies & organization is where it starts to get fun.  How will you keep your things organized & what will those types of things be?  Think through all surfaces, vertical and horizontal.  Normally our first thought is to place things on the desk but let's remember we have unused space up on the walls.  Maybe hanging file organizers instead of a drawer or desktop file organizer.  Jar organizers attached to a wall could also be fun.  This is where I like to think out of the box and really get creative with using items differently than what they were intended for.  Now make it your own with your personal style.  Choosing a color palette for the space is typically where I would start if I do not already have a statement piece to work off of.  A tip for choosing color palette is to purchase your rug, wall decor, or draperies first and then form your color palette off of that.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Reclaimed Warehouse (@reclaimedwarehouse) BLACK BAMBOO PENDANT LIGHT - LINKED HERE DESK TOP ORGANIZER - LINKED HERE CASEY DESK - LINKED HERE BELLAMY TABLE LAMP - LINKED HERE METAL WALL SCONCE  - LINKED HERE SCONCE LIGHT - LINKED HERE BLACK CERAMIC DIFFUSER - LINKED HERE LAUREN DESK - LINKED HERE ROPE BASKET SET - LINKED HERE TARA DESK CHAIR - LINKED HERE ASPEN DESK - LINKED HERE FAUX COW HIDE RUG - LINKED HERE SAVILLE DESK CHAIR - LINKED HERE WALL SHELF & METAL BASKET - LINKED HERE METAL FILE WALL BASKETS - LINKED HERE PLUG OUTLET TOWER - LINKED HERE

Top 3 Easy Houseplants

Top 3 Easy Houseplants

The power of a plant in a space is crucial!  It immediately gives that cozy lived in feel.  Something about adding just that little bit of green can do so much.  I’ve gone through my share of houseplants before I found the ones that I just can’t kill.  These are plants that I personally have and have worked very well for me.   I have several (I actually think 7) snake plants in my house.  I think it may actually be impossible to kill these.  I have a small pot of 3 on the shelf above my bathtub and I forget they are there all the time so they sometimes miss my Sunday watering schedule every now and then.        Monstera Delicisoa might be my favorite because of how it looks.  I love the shape of the leaves.  It also seems to grow rather quickly.  This plant  doesn’t require much sunlight to grow so it works perfectly for a bedroom or bathroom where the sunlight may be limited.   Monstera Delicisoa might be my favorite because of how it looks.  I love the shape of the leaves.  It also seems to grow rather quickly.  This plant  doesn’t require much sunlight to grow so it works perfectly for a bedroom or bathroom where the sunlight may be limited.   I choose the same day every week to water my houseplants to keep it easy.  If you start to notice dust on your leaves make sure to wipe those off periodically with a damp cloth or a cloth spritzed with thieves cleaner.  Plants breathe through their leaves so keeping those wiped off will keep them happy.  Cute containers are always a fun way to add some flair to your plants and really top off your decor.   *TIP*  If you are not ready to repot just yet but want to change the look of your pot consider a cut basket to set your plant down in!  Wrapped River Grass Basket CLICK HERE Sturdy Jute rope plant basket CLICK HERE Black & white jute rope plant basket click here
